These instructions were developed by Arctic Tundra (AT) and transcribed and written by Teri Ciacchi after their experimental session using the Slotted PPV™ on November 16, 2005.
Begin preparing for insertion of the PPV™ by using the following breathing and pelvic exercises. Start by doing three deep cleansing breaths that allow for relaxation and the inflation and deflation of your stomach. Any breathing technique that uses your full lung capacity and serves to relax you will do.
Continue to breathe deeply and fully but for the next three breaths add an intentional “clamping down” of your vaginal muscles on the inhale and release and “pushing out” during your exhaled breath. Allow your muscles to relax and then repeat this a total of three times (inhale and clamp down, exhale and push out, relax). When you clamp down during the inhale, you are actually feeling your PC muscles and sphincter tightening. When you are pushing out on the exhale, you will feel the same muscles release as if you are having a bowel movement and peeing simultaneously. This exercise is essentially the opposite of vaginal tenting and effectively pushes your uterus down so that your cervix lines up with your vaginal opening. This will allow the PPV to slide in easily in a manner that gives you visual access to the cervix, the paraurethral sponge and its G-spot, the paraurethral ducts, the urethra, and other parts of the clitoral complex. Please see the recommended reading below to become more familiar with these anatomical terms*.
Now pick up the Slotted PPV and make sure you have some lubricant on hand. Looking at the slotted PPV, you will see that one end is tapered and one end is flat. The tapered end will go into the vaginal opening and slide up to and touch the most forward part of your cervix. (Editorial Note - the new PPV’s in 2007 have both ends tapered, and either end may be inserted into the vagina.) To insert the Slotted PPV, put a generous amount of lube all around the inside of the vaginal opening. Also put lube on the outside and inner lip of the tapered end of the Slotted PPV. Once everything has been lubricated, bring the PPV to the opening of the vaginal canal at an angle that is about 30 degrees from the floor of the vaginal floor. Another way to say this is: point it slightly downward. Put a finger inside the vagina between the vaginal canal and the PPV, slowly slide the finger around the diameter of the PPV. This is to insure that lubricant is touching every part of the vaginal canal and will not cause any sticking which would lead to possible discomfort. Pay special attention to the area before the floor of the vaginal canal as this is the most likely place for the PPV to “pull” as it goes in. Be sure that the slot in the Slotted PPV is facing up toward the ceiling of your vaginal canal. Breathe in, use one hand to open your vaginal canal and the other to push the PPV down and in. Keep even pressure at the bottom of the PPV. Push in until you feel a slight resistance which will be the PPV encountering your cervix. Stop pushing. You are finished inserting the PPV.
The length of PPV which remains outside of your vaginal canal is completely unique to your anatomy. There is no correct length. Do not attempt to push the entire length of the PPV inside you if there is any resistance. You can completely view all of your anatomy no matter how much of the PPV remains outside of your body. Now get a mirror and a flashlight and see yourself as you have never seen yourself before! The slot may be rotated to see different portions of the wall of the vagina.
It is our sincerest wish that the Slotted Personal Pelvic Viewer enable you to improve your gynecological health and self-care. We hope you will also explore the many ways you can improve your sexual responsiveness and communications regarding your genital anatomy.
